Haven 2012

Last week I had the awesome opportunity to attend Haven 2012, and oh how I am wishing I could turn the clock back a week. It was such a great conference where I not only learned a ton, but I got to meet and hangout with so many beautiful and talented women.

The best part was being there with my sister, Melissa. Love this girl, Haven wouldn’t have been the same without her.

The conference started with our keynote speakers, John and Sherry from Young House Love and I was totally engaged with what they were saying right from the beginning. They were so down to earth, genuine and hilarious! It was fun to hear their story and how they run a successful blog together.

Melissa and I were able to get a picture with them and little Clara afterwards. Such a cute family.
We had amazing break-out sessions that were so informative and helpful – every class that I went to I learned a ton, but I have to say my favorite part was socializing with the other bloggers there. I met so many amazing ladies. Here are a few of my favorite Haven Mavens!beneath my heart

And the reason why I came to Haven…. Kevin and Layla from The Lettered Cottage! Remember I won their giveaway? I gave them both a big hug. They taught an awesome photography class together and you know when things finally click? That’s what happened for me during their class. I feel like I finally understand my camera, we’re on a different level now thanks to these two people.

Another one of my favorite classes was taught by  Marian (Miss Mustard Seed) She taught an amazing advanced painting class and talked about some of her favorite products. Anyone that reads her blog knows that one of them is Annie Sloan Chalk Paint. This is something that I’ve read all about but have never actually tried myself, so I was excited to see what all of the rage was about. We got to try it out ourselves and let me tell you I fell in love with how easy the application was, really love that you don’t need to prime or sand, and once it was on and buffed a little bit, it felt as smooth as a baby’s bum! Everyone at the conference was given a sample pot and I can’t wait to try mine.chalk paint

I also loved their line of colors which you can see here. What about you, have you tried chalk paint? Do you have a favorite color?

Haven more then exceeded my expectations and I am so grateful I had the opportunity to go and learn what I did, meet new people, make new friendships, and spend time with my sister. I’m already looking forward to next year!

Dresser and Nightstand Makeover: Heirloom White

Today I wanted to show you a little makeover I did for my girls’ room in one of my favorite spray paint colors, Heirloom White by Rustoleum. It’s a perfect creamy white that looks good on just about everything.

When we first moved into our house last fall, we didn’t have any furniture for their room so I shopped Craigslist and found a dresser and nightstand. They were pretty U-G-L-Y, so we brought them home and gave them a little facelift.

This is the only “before” picture I took of the nightstand. I had my cute little helper assisting me with the hardware.

And the finished product!

…and AFTER! It’s amazing the difference a few spray paint cans and new knobs can make.
There are so many other things I wish I could do to this room. Painting the paneling and walls would be number one on my list, but we are renting and the room was just “remodeled” before we moved in – it’s off limits. But I love this color and have a pile out in my garage waiting to be “Heirloomed”! Have you painted anything with Heirloom White?
Also, don’t forget it’s National Painting Week! Come back to visit tomorrow – we are having a party at Favorite Paint Colors with an awesome giveaway. Have a great day!

Paint Resources

Happy Friday! Today I just wanted to share with you a couple of paint resources that can be helpful when picking out paint colors. You may have already heard of them, but if you havn’t they are worth checking out.
Have you seen the Young House Love paint colors over at Benjamin Moore? John and Sherry have chosen a great variety that I think can be helpful when picking out a color/color scheme and not knowing where to start.
A few of my favorite colors:

Gray Horse
Moonshine
Dragonfly
Nantucket Tan
Sesame
Milano Red
If you havn’t seen the paint colors in their home, that’s  another great resource – one that they are constantly updating and changing. Love these guys and can’t wait to meet them in June!
Have you had a chance to check out My Colortopia? It’s another awesome website recently launched by Glidden that has some great paint tips and inspiration. There is even a quiz you can take to help determine your “color style”.  Some of my favorite bloggers (and I’m sure yours too!) contribute to the Colortopia blog. There are some great posts that have been written and they are all about paint!
Also, I am having a giveaway next week that you won’t want to miss out on. It’s time to celebrate one year at Favorite Paint Colors and I want you to be a part of it! Have a great weekend everyone!
