Our Downstairs Painted Door

May 12, 2015 by Kristin Williams Leave a Comment

This is our downstairs door that goes out to the garage and the first project on my to-do list this week. The before picture was taken awhile ago, before we took down our popcorn ceilings and painted our trim and walls. I didn’t paint the door because we were eventually going to replace it. (One major lesson I have learned while remodeling our house – projects take a lot longer than you anticipate when DIYing it!) That was 3 months ago and we still haven’t gotten to it yet so I decided to just paint it in the meantime. And I’m so glad I did, it’s amazing how much happier I feel when I go downstairs. Here’s the before…

…and the after.

Downstairs door paint color with trim and walls

Trim: Alabaster by Sherwin-Williams, my favorite trim color, almost identical to White Dove by BM

Wall color: Sedate Gray by Sherwin-Williams (a great neutral and one of the colors from the SW 2015 color forecast I wanted to try out)

Door color: Waterscape by Sherwin-Williams

The hardest part about painting to me is just getting started. Once I do it, it’s fine but I sometimes think I have to wait for that “perfect time”. This door took me about 45 minutes to prep and paint it and I love it so much better than the dark wood. It’s amazing what a little paint can do to lift your mood. Now if someone can just do our floor … more on that later.Smile Happy Painting Week!
